Interesting, but I felt like it was retreading the same ground as canon. )

Okay story, clunky prose. )

Fic reviews: McShep Match Days 1 & 2

Well, I still haven't finished reading everything for Match, but I figured now that the names have been revealed, I can start posting the reviews for what I have read.

Day 1: Top of the World

Atmosphere by [info - livejournal.com] indy_go 2/5
2900 words. Nowhere else to go but up.
Cute enough if you like fluff, but even then it's pretty bland. )

Day 2: Tilting at Windmills

Where the Brave Dare Not Go by [info - livejournal.com] telesilla 4/5 Recommended
18,000 words. John Sheppard has had over twenty years to come to grips with the fact that every four or five weeks, he turns into a mountain lion. Like most Were, he accepts that that's just the way it is, and so he's not particularly interested when he learns that researchers at the local university are trying to to develop drugs that will help Were control their cycles. Then he meets Dr. Rodney McKay, a brilliant but irascible biochemist with reasons of his own for spearheading the university's Were research and John suddenly finds himself struggling with more than just his attraction to McKay.
I really enjoyed this, despite not being a fan of the werewolf genre. )

The Ingenious Dr. Rodney McKay of Atlantis by [info - livejournal.com] propinquitine 2/5
10,600 words. Who would have thought that defeating the Wraith was the least of Rodney's worries?

Sherlock Holmes. 8600 words. "When I agreed to share lodgings with you, I didn't realise that I would be sharing with twenty-odd others as well," I said. "Perhaps you should be paying additional rent."
This is now my canon. )

Travis [userpic]
Fic reviews: Harry Potter

So uh, apparently last year I never read any more remixes than the one that was written for me? D: Or at least not in HP, because this review has been sitting on my hard drive for over a year as I waited and waited to get back to reading remixes and never did. *sigh* But I did read a remix this year! And the fic it was based on. And had one other HP review sitting around. And four reviews makes a post! So.

After reading this and thinking it over for quite some time, I'm still unsure what I think about it. )

Points Where All Shadows Meet by [info - livejournal.com] osmalic 3/5
1800 words. At this point (and that point), Severus Snape thinks he can leave it all behind.
Well-written, but the focus wasn't on what I was interested in. )

Excellent Petunia fic. )

Fic reviews: 2 SPN Big Bangs

Awesome. )

And God, I Know I'm One by [info - livejournal.com] newredshoes 1/5
20,000 words. So Sam is willing to let his younger brother find their missing dad all by himself, but when his fiancee Jessica disappears, he'll drop his position at a D.C. law firm and hit the road to hunt again? Fine. Whatever. Dean can deal with that, just like he can deal with the strange dreams and crippling headaches. The demons, though? That part he doesn't want to do alone.
Nothing more than a 20,000 word partial summary of a promising AU. Why is there not a warning for THIS? )

Travis [userpic]
Fic reviews: Supernatural

One Big Bang and a couple others. All recs! Amazing.

As I Descend the Stair by [info - livejournal.com]busaikko 4/5 Recommended
5900 words. Life, as it flashes before the eyes: "I don't know how to be what anybody expects --" and Sam's hand draws a sharp head-to-toe line -- "but I was halfway to figuring out how to be me."
Finally an SPN transfic that's not about Dean! )

Dead Soldiers: An Oral History of the End Times by [info - livejournal.com]fryadvocate 5/5 Recommended
43,400 words. Although much has been written about the sociological and theological importance of the "End Times War", there has been much less written about the individuals directly involved. Using interviews with primary sources, this paper seeks to examine how Dean and Sam Winchester, two criminals with a history of violence and petty theft, became commonly known as a prophet of the Lord and the Anti-Christ.
How could you not want to read it with that summary? In a word: awesome. )

Accidents Will Happen by [info - livejournal.com]holli 4/5 Recommended
6400 words. Some Goth teenagers accidentally resurrect John Winchester. No, seriously.
Hilarious. )

The West Wing. 19,000 words. At the Emergency Room the doctor calls Huck your brother. Molly doesn't bother to correct him, neither does dad, not at first anyway, though she does wonder -- not for the first time -- why, with her short hair and dungarees, she never gets mistaken for a boy anymore.
I liked the story, but not the writing style. )

Making Your Bed in the Prison of Your Mind by [info - livejournal.com]merle_p 3/5
Leverage. 3000 words. There are a lot of reasons why coming out is a bad idea.
Interesting, but I couldn't really get into it. )

The Epiphany Job by [info - livejournal.com]shrift 5/5 Recommended

Not Paige, Please by [info] - livejournal.comamadi 5/5 Recommended

Really feels like it could be an episode. )

1200 words. Saul was nineteen the first time he kissed another man. It felt as though the world was ending. Now, half a century later, Henry kisses him, and it feels less like disaster and more like rebirth.
A little too tell-y for me. )

Bring Him Home by [info] - livejournal.commarea67 1/5
1900 words. What if your mother has a different opinion of what "home" is?
Needs editing badly. )

I Beg Your Pardon, I Never Promised You a Rose Garden by [info] - livejournal.commerle_p 4/5 Recommended

Similar theme to the one above, but so much better. )

Featuring 4 hunters, 3 deals with the devil, 2 brothers, 1 blessing, and 1 curse.
This is just amazing. )

The Violet Hour by [info] - livejournal.comzooey_glass04 3/5
5500 words. In the bright glare of the overhead light it's impossible to ignore what he's been seeing all along: the broad, masculine shape of his sister's shoulders underneath the jacket.
Better than the other one that used this prompt, but my like never quite became love. )

Three Shots Fired by [info] - livejournal.comjargonelle 2/5
