Supernatural, Ugly Betty, Modern Family
Hey, I watched TV.

Supernatural 5x07
I'm not gonna lie: this episode was really boring. The only thing that saved it was old!Dean, who was AWESOME.

But not only did it feel really out of place in the story arc, the plot was boring. We've had a ton of witch stories now and they're really not that interesting. Ooh, this one makes people older or younger. Woohoo. Give me some monsters or some sort of cool mystery if you're going to have a stand-alone.

I was glad they had a guy be the witch here, rather than their usual evol laydeez thing, but then they just let him go about his merry way (plus showing him in a good light when he gave that old man some extra years and also having him be sad when his girlfriend died). So female witches are evil and must die, but male witches have good sides and even if they do bad things they still get to live. Bleh. Also I was not thrilled about how the woman's death was just used as angst for the guy, plus she was all woe sad mother, blah blah blah.

Ugly Betty 4x01-04
I have been watching Ugly Betty the past few weeks, but just haven't got around to posting about it. When I watched the premiere, I was feeling like maybe I'd had enough of Ugly Betty. It just wasn't grabbing me and was feeling really old and tired. But about halfway through the two-parter, I started enjoying it again. I do think it's kind of getting old, though. I would not be unhappy if this was its last season. I hate how US TV drags everything on forever.

Anyway! Maaaybe Justin will finally come out? I really hope that's where this is heading. I really hated that convo between Hilda and Justin where they were dancing around the issue (well, I hate how the show has danced around the issue from the very beginning, but that convo seemed especially forced).

Betty as an editor is a nice change of pace. I love how close she and Daniel still are (and Daniel's crazy overprotectiveness was amusing). I loved her and Marc getting along better in this most recent episode (it's realistic for Marc to be upset, but I love when he and Betty are friends).

I was pleased to see that the editor Betty shares an office with is another woman of color! But now she seems to have dropped out of the picture, boo.

Matt...is an asshat. I actually really liked his speech to Betty, though, when he admitted how frustrated he was with the way he was acting, but couldn't seem to stop it. I don't want her to get back with him, and he's a total dick, but I liked that exchange a lot. (And he is getting better about treating Betty fairly, yay.)

Last week's episode was the kind I hate the most. I had to pause it so many times because it was hitting my embarrassment squick really hard, when they were at the restaurant especially. And I hate, hate, hate that Betty was sabotaging herself like that. Not only was it embarrassing to watch, but I had no sympathy for her so it was really irritating. I loved Amanda slapping Marc, though.

So. The one thing I really am not into this season is the whole thing with Nico. Whyyyyyyy? I really don't like the more out-there plotlines on Ugly Betty, and Nico killing her boyfriend is pretty out there. I also rolled my eyes when Connor came back. I love Willie so much, but her plotlines this season are meh.

Modern Family 1x01-06
I like this, but I'm not wowed by it. For one thing, it has a lot more embarrassment humor than I am comfortable with, so I keep having to pause it when I see it heading in that direction. Like this week's ep, when Cam and Mitchell took Lily to the doctor and Cam was being cringeworthily racist. Though once I got past the embarrassment of that scene, I loved the way it played out, because the doctor was so awesome.

Cam: You'll be pleased to know we're planning on raising her with an awareness of her culture.

Doctor: Oh, that's great.

Cam: There's this great Pho place around the corner from us. Is that how you say it? Fuh?

Doctor: ...I wouldn't know. I'm from Denver. We don't have a lot of Pho around there.

Then later as they're leaving...

Cam: *bows*

Doctor: Den.ver.

(Paraphrased, but you get the picture.)

I also squee about the localness of it. The Costco episode was filmed at the Costco we go to, and the elementary school Luke and Manny go to is the same one my mom went to when she was a kid. They didn't even disguise it or change the name or anything!

Speaking of Manny, I love him to bits. He is definitely the best character on this show. Though I also love Cam and Mitchell and Gloria, and to a lesser degree, Jay. Really the whole other family could disappear and I wouldn't miss them. Especially Phil. I'm sorry, but he isn't funny. He's just gross.

So now I am watching Supernatural, Ugly Betty, Glee, Modern Family, Brothers & Sisters*, Leverage, The Simpsons, and Family Guy. Even if three of those are half-hour shows, that is a ton of TV. To be honest, I really don't understand how TV is relaxing for most people. Keeping up with stuff is super stressful for me.

I had been planning on watching FlashForward just to see, but even the thought of it was beginning to stress me out, so I think I'm going to just set it aside for the moment. I have the first six eps on my hard drive, but I moved them from the internal "watch it soon" folder to the external "maybe someday" folder. I have the book, so what I'll probably do is read that and see how well I like it and whether or not I want to watch a show based on it (I doubt the show has much to do with the book, though). I know there are people on my flist watching it, but I don't hear much talk about it. What do you guys think of it? Awesome or just okay?

*I still am not caught up on Brothers & Sisters. I have half of S3 to watch before even getting to this season, but because I'm watching so many other shows, I never seem to have time to catch up.
